Little Abbey is Growing Up!

I was excited to see Abbey Lee on the front page of Australian Vogue, Dazed and Confused and I.D magazine! The edgy beauty has now become the favourite of Karl Lagerfeld himself after she was chosen to be the bride in Chanel's latest couture collection.

WHAT I"M LISTENING TO AND WHAT YOU SHOULD BE!

SIA

Sia Furler is an Australian pop singer who has worked with chilled out outfit Zero 7 who I also happen to love as well as written songs for the likes of Christina Aguilera and Sam Dixon. It easy to see really the woman is a genius the creativity and originality in her work are hard to beat. What makes her even cooler is her openess about her bisexuality. Songs to check out include: 'Breathe Me', 'Girl You Lost to Cocaine', 'Judge Me', 'Natales Song'. I am so glad I found Sia in a world where you have to dig to find quality music that is not just after commercial success.

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM

LCD Soundsystem is the work of producer James Murphy who is head of dance punk label DFA records. Murphy creates intelligent dance/punk music which challenges the boundaries and conventions of its supposed genre.  Murphys music takes me into a crazy world where disco and punk collide, where nothing in music is unreachable. It puzzles to me as to why Murphy is not more well known. Great tracks include: 'Daft Punk is Playing at My House', 'Get Innocuous', "North American Scum', 'Give it up' and many more.

PEACHES

Merrill Beth Nisker (Peaches) is a Canadian electronic musician who challenges conventions and creates music which is new, exciting and plants a big 'fuck you' on the idea that woman should be chaste, restrained and sexually inhibited. It is refreshing to see a woman who is so obviously comfortable with her sexuality and who can prove that woman can be even cooler  than men when it comes to rock and roll. Tracks to check out include: 'Fuck the pain away', 'Back it Up', 'Kick it'(A duo with the cool Iggy Pop) and 'Rock Show'.

Fashion Ain't Frivolous

I'm sick of people categorising fashion as a superficial passion, whereas music and art (fashion is art but I am specifically referring to non-wearable art) are considered by society to be of great importance. My frustration was brought to a climax after a discussion with a guy who makes clothes and who confirmed himself as a hater of fashion 'an industry obsessed with the superficial and business advancement' (Yohji Yamamoto has been quoted of saying the same thing).  I do believe his words are not completely untrue but I believe they miss the true meaning of fashion. Fashion is (and I don't mean to sound cliche here) 'wearable art'. I can't see how it can be distinguished from the art world in anyway. It reflects the changing society and the state of the world at large. It is not merely for aesthetic value, high fashion designers have a strong concept behind their collections. In an interview with RUSSH magazine (December 2009) the contemporary duo Proenza Schoeler discussed their new collection and how it is inspired by the beauty of the ocean and the intricate patterns found on tropical fish....does this not sound like art to you?

New Season General Pants Co.

I have a real soft spot for General Pants Co. They always manage to be fun young  and trendy with a bit of an edge and at a price that I can afford without adding to my debts. Here are some of my favourite items available this season:

Mimi Loves Jimi Kanika Boot-$79.95
Sabre Eyewear-Acid Aloha Tort-$159.95

Luna-Vogue Tee -$69.95

Opinions on Marc by Marc Jacobs SSRTW 2010?

I couldn't be more disapointed with this collection. I'm not a massive fan of Jacobs but this is a real downfall for me. The collection nearly works but there is an element missing. It doesn't have the elegance or class of high fashion. The colours are badly coordinated and the use of plaid is may I say un-original and reminscent of last season. There is definitely some similarity to Luella's collection in the Lolita-esque nature of some of the looks. However Luella does it with so much class. The collection on the whole looks like it comes straight out of a bargain bin...which is fine but I'm not paying $1000's of dollars for it.

Some of the worser looks of the collection:

Some of my favourite new catwalkers

ANYA KAZAKOVA
With her unusual facial structure and striking eyes this young lady was destined to get noticed
.

BREGJE HEINEN
All I can say is ' look at this girls lips and eyes!'. Life is unfair period.

SIRI TOLLEROD
Looks like one of the bitchy popular girls from school. There is a mean gleam to her eyes... but who can denigh that she looks hot on the runway?

SIGRED AGREN
This model exudes that old fashioned elegance that I so admire. There are those that say she is bland but I beg to differ.
