LONG SOCKS ARE HOT!!

I really love long socks. They have that slightly geeky/intellectual look to them and they also look ridicously cute and sexy. Proenza Schouler really pulled off the look this Fall and now I think I will die unless I get a pair of long socks. They  look especially great with brogues and La Garcon has shown in it's fabulous ensembles.

Rachel Comey creates timeless clothes

American Rachel Comey has a background in sculpture and costume design. She found her lable in 2001 in which she focused mainly on menswear. She later expanded to womenswear. Comey's collections feature unique prints, excellent quality and an attention to detail which has captured the attention of the fashion world and established a cult following.  Comey's clothes are available at La Garconne.com, a luxury fashion dealer like net.o.porter but with a more alternative selection. Here are some gorgeous pieces available on the site:

Here is some of a interview with Comey from Jargol.com

What is your design process like? How do you start?

We start with materials, they are really important to me. So I spend a lot of time researching fabrics, prints, knits, stitches, whatever. We spend a lot of time with that. That works its way through color. Silhouette is always in the back of my mind.

You make your own prints. How did that come about? Is that something you did from the very beginning?

That's something I've been doing from the second or third season. Something I always wanted to do for sure. Since childhood I've always really been interested in textiles. I've always been wanting to do it and it took me a while to find the right resources.

Do you make prints with particular pieces in mind or do you make the print first and then figure out what you want to use it in--what dress or what piece?

The better I get at it, the more I think about the silhouettes before the prints, but I'd say sometimes there's just something I want to try. Since it's just me with my business and nobody there to edit me, I often just let it happen.

How do you design prints? How does it work?

It could be anything. It could be starting with a drawing or a cutout or anything, a found scrap, anything. We did one print that had all signatures of old friends and store owners. We went around and collected those. Sometimes I find other prints and archived ones and then I draw over them.

Another thing I guess you are known for and that is mentioned again and again is your attention to detail. Is that something you're cognizant of or does it just come naturally?

Well, I like when things have a little surprise to them or one more added consideration. I respond to that when I see things in the market--of any kind of thing--that it just seems intelligently considered. It's meaningful to me considering how much product there is out there in general of all kinds.

Maybe I'm just seeing things, but I think I see sculpture in your work. In particular in the simpler solid pieces that have extra bits of fabric, extra folds and things. Do you find yourself using what you've learned in sculpture in your clothing?

Well, I don't do a ton of draping and things like that which people always equate to sculpture. I do it a bit, but for me I think it's the materials aspect of it that most relates to sculpture. So much of sculpture, to me, is about the materials and how they're used. So I think that, in that relationship, yeah. Especially with the shoes which have been such a big deal and growing all the time, finding new ways to work with them.

BLONDIE...CALL ME!

A style icon, the ultimate rock chick who took the boring out of blonde. I love this woman (and I don't mean in a gay way...maybe).

CLUB IT UP!!!

Here are some of my favourite dance tracks at the moment perfect for shaking it on down....yeeeah!

1) WEARING MY ROLEX-WILEY
The mix of rap and house music creates the funkiest dance track of the year. I feel like jumping off the walls when I hear this.

2) SOMETIMES-MIAMI HORROR
This track makes want to dance...and I'll admit a little frisky.

3) SHOOTING STAR-BAG RAIDERS
This track is perfect for making out and pulling out da moves!

NEW FROM NET O PORTER

JASON WU

Wu is quickly emerging as one of my favourite newly discovered talents, his clothes are young, fun, original and unusual.

Jason Wu Tulle and silk-taffeta mini dressJason Wu Printed silk-chiffon top
Left: Tulle Silk Dress-this dress boasts gorgeous colours and a classiness and originality that makes it stand out from the typical party dress. I would wear this piece with a gorgeous pair of heels or perhaps some knee high boots and for the cooler weather a nice simple black blazer.
Right: This t-shirt has a gorgeous print that to me spells fun. I would wear this all summer with a great pair of denim shorts and sandals and  for the evening some black skinny jeans.

ACNE

Acne makes the perfect basics that a university student like me could only dream of...aaah.

Acne Button-front denim jacketAcne Skin zip-back skinny jeans
Left: Denim Jacket-Denim is back in a big way. You should that 90's jacket you still have in the bottom of your wardrobe wouldn't come back....well your wrong. It's made a comeback and it's hot. Wear it with a body hugging maxi dress for the perfect vintage look.
Right: Skinny Jeans-If I had these jeans I would be one very happy lady... and look hot while being happy.

THAKOON

Another young designer that is wowing the fashion elite with his amazing prints and total originality.
<span class=<span class=
Left: Floral Print silk blend dress-It is only a designer as great as Thakoon that could make a grandma print look covet- able . Could be worn with some great beige heels or sexy black boots. And for the really daring the sock and heel combination could be pulled off....maybe.
Right: Printed Silk double-layer top-Woah! So many thing to look at on this gorgeous top. This is reminiscent of an abstract painting...a work of art!

The rise of UGLY FASHION at Balmain F2010

Balmain's new fall collection has really got me thinking about what I believe about fashion. Should fashion be beautiful or challenging to the eye? Am I a arch-conservative or is it just common sense to believe that clothes should look good on the wearer. Perhaps grotesque is the new cool. I love Dries Van Noten's clothes and he is widely regarded as anti-commerical!? ...but his clothes are also beautiful.  I think what makes great fashion are clothes which are challenging , interesting and beautiful. Balmain did none of these things in my opinion. I'll elaborate so you know what I mean:

*leather pants are very last season to use them as a first look for the collection is very un-inspiring (although I did like the fur coat)

*Gold pants?... I mean did they run out of ideas!

*It is one thing to have ugly carpet in your house but it is another to cut up that ugly carpet and wear it as a garment.
Balmain Fall 2010 Ready-to-Wear
*The dresses look vaguely...no exactly like the ones from the last two season...and they seem to be getting shorter (to save material?)
